The counter seats are the special ones where you can enjoy a conversation with the cheerful owner-chef. He puts distinct effort into the nimono soup and takiawase – both are dishes seasoned primarily with dashi. In the summer, hamo is made into soup with wax gourds and homemade thick fried tofu. In the winter, kelp bass is cooked with Shogoin daikon. The ryotei-like dishes are lip-smackingly good.
