Sumiya Ryokan

Sumiya became a ryokan in the early Taisho period (the 1910s) to host those visiting for training in tea ceremony and Noh song – its predecessor was a blacksmith well-versed in these arts. The tea room at Ginkaku-ji provides the motif for the ‘Sengetsu’ guest room. ‘Izutsu’ features skilfully crafted nail-head covers and ornamental pulls. The garden, with its dark green moss, spring and lanterns, speaks of a fondness for quiet.
